Hiring a Life Coach in 5 Easy Steps | Self Development

Hiring a Life Coach in 5 Easy Steps

Article by Tim Brownson

For obvious reasons I rarely get people phone me up and ask for advice on hiring a Coach. They either call with a view to hiring me to be their Life Coach, or they don?t call me at all.

However, I do sometimes get the request from people I know and I have encouraged family members to hire their own self-improvement many times. After all it?s not only unethical for me to coach family members or friends, it also doesn?t work.

A Life trainer has to start the process with no agenda whatsoever. If you already know somebody, then it?s almost impossible not to have an agenda when you begin the Life training process even if it?s at an unconscious level.

Here is the advice that I would offer people I know looking to hire a Life trainer.

1. Ignore cost as much as possible.

The fact that Life training is unregulated means that a lot of people have started up practices over the last couple of years or so. Some understand the power of marketing and that if they charge exorbitant fees some people will assume they are excellent self-improvement.

This is not so, I know expensive poor quality coaches and inexpensive brilliant ones. To begin with, ignore costs and concentrate on what you want from a Life Coach. if after your due diligence you cannot afford the coach you want, simply move on to the next one.

2. Make sure you like them

Life Coaching requires a close working relationship and if you don?t like the Life you have hired you risk putting that under pressure from the get go, make sure you are in rapport and like the person concerned.

3. Look for experience

Because of the recent explosion of Life there are a lot of newbie Life improvement out there with little or no experience. I?m sure some will be great, but would you rather hire the dentist who just qualified or the one who has dealt with hundreds of different clients?

4. Look for training

I know you can still be competent at Life Coaching without any formal training, but it makes it less likely. if the Life Coach you are considering hasn?t taken any training and is effectively wining it, what does that tell you about how serious they are about being the best Life Coach they can be?

5. Ask for referrals

I have dozens of testimonials on my website, but rarely does a prospective client ask to speak with any of those people. They should! I am only too happy to allow prospects to speak with previous clients to get a better idea of whether I am the right Life Coach for them. Also, be very suspicious of testimonials that don?t have a full name. ?Tim is an amazing Life Coach, Bob, New York?, doesn?t really tell you fat lot and I could have made that up.

And by the way, there are a lot of people now that offer to write testimonials for a small fee, so do your due diligence and make sure they are legitimate.

If you follow the above 5 tips I?m pretty sure you will hire a great Life trainer who is right for you.
