Georgia Diner in Duluth returned to its A-level standards after falling below satisfactory scores, according to a March 6 food safety report.

The restaurant at 1655 Pleasant Hill Road, which prides itself on various cuisines, such as American, Greek, Italian and Mediterranean, scored a 96 (A) after dropping to a 59 (U) recently. Violations included inadequate date-marking for foods, improper storage of items in the cooler and substandard handling of foods, the report showed.

After observing an employee mishandle foods, the inspector advised, ?when switching between handling raw foods and ready-to-eat foods, gloves need to be removed and hands washed, and new gloves need to be donned.?

Georgia Diner?s routine food safety result also suffered because of a violation that fits into the pest control category. ?At the bottom of the back door, there is opening into which pest and rodents to enter facility. All outer entrances need to be protected to keep out pests and rodents,? the inspector advised.

The restaurant?s follow-up examination shows that problem and all others were corrected, but one citation kept it from a perfect score: not having paper towels one of the hand sinks.

?Please make sure hand sinks are stocked with paper towel so that employees can wash their hands frequently,? the inspector wrote, noting that it was corrected during the visit.

The manager declined an on-record comment.
